ROLES INCLUDED

In the development of the ChefPlanet Recipe App, my roles included Strategic Planner, Designer, and App Developer. I designed and crafted the app's user interface and experience, developed technical functionalities, and worked with User Research to gain deep insights into user needs and behaviors. This multidisciplinary approach ensured a holistic and effective design and implementation process for the app.

BACKGROUND

In our pursuit to elevate the ChefPlanet Recipe App, key business objectives were identified to drive growth and enhance user experience. The primary goals included boosting user engagement and integrating features like social media and live-streaming to foster richer user interaction. Addressing the user's perspective, the demand for diverse and interactive cooking content was recognized, as well as the desire among users to network and connect with fellow cooking enthusiasts.

RESEARCH

USER RESEARCH TESTING

For the recipe app development, I conducted user research to ensure the design meets the needs and preferences of our target audience. Here's an overview of the user research process:

  1. User Testing and Surveys: I conducted user testing sessions and surveys to gather feedback on various aspects of the recipe app, including the app name, icon designs, and overall user experience.

  2. Recipe App Name Survey: Users were presented with different app name options, and ChefPlanet emerged as the preferred choice based on user feedback.

  3. Icon Design Evaluation: Users evaluated different icon designs for the recipe app using a rating scale based on appeal and suitability. Their input helped in selecting the most appealing and relevant icon for the app.

  4. Feedback Collection: Users were given the opportunity to provide additional comments and suggestions regarding the icon designs and any other aspect of the app. This feedback was invaluable in identifying areas for improvement and refinement.

  5. Feedback Mechanism Simulation: After completing the survey, users received a "Thank You" message expressing gratitude for their time and input. They were also invited to join a follow-up focus group for further discussion about app design, ensuring ongoing engagement and collaboration.

By incorporating user feedback obtained through surveys, usability testing, and interviews, we aim to create a recipe app that not only meets but exceeds the expectations of our diverse user base, resulting in a seamless and enjoyable user experience.

  4. Meal Planning Integration: Seamlessly integrating meal planning features with recipe recommendations and shopping lists streamlines Gabriella's meal preparation process and reduces the need for external tools.

  5. Shopping List Optimization: The app's shopping list feature should be smart and adaptable, considering ingredients already available at home and allowing easy manual adjustments.

  6. User Ratings and Reviews: User-generated ratings, reviews, and tips provide Gabriella with valuable insights into recipe quality and potential modifications, enhancing her decision-making process.

  7. Ingredient Accessibility: Including information on where to find unique or exotic ingredients helps Gabriella source the necessary items for international or specialty recipes, making her cooking experience more accessible.

  8. Cooking Guidance: Incorporating instructional videos, cooking tips, and technique tutorials assists Gabriella in mastering unfamiliar cooking methods or refining her skills.

4 THINGS TO CHANGE/DESIGN DIFFERENTLY BASED ON TESTING FEEDBACK

  • PROBLEM: Difficulty in remembering recipe ingredients for the shopping list.

    • SOLUTION: Make it easier to add to the shopping list within the recipe directions, allowing users to quickly add ingredients while viewing a recipe.

  • PROBLEM: Difficulty in going back to the last-used recipe.

    • SOLUTION: Implement a feature that enables users to easily                navigate back to the recipe they previously accessed,                            providing a convenient way to revisit recipes they've used                      recently.

  • PROBLEM: Lack of a consistent back button on every                            page, making navigation challenging.

    • SOLUTION: Add a standardized back button or                                      navigation control on every page to enable users easily                            return to their previous location within the app or website.

    • PROBLEM: Profile not displaying immediately after logging in.

    • SOLUTION: Ensure that the user's profile is the first page that opens up  after logging in, providing a seamless and personalized experience from the start of the session.
